Adventure is all about Attitude

Sometimes the best way to find an adventure is just to change your attitude.

Anything can be boring, but anything can also be exciting.

Yesterday I watched the Hobbit.  Today I had a million every day things to do.  After watching the Hobbit, my life seemed even more unexciting than normal.

But guess what?

Once I decided I was gonna rock it, I still managed to have fun.

So without further adieu, good night and good luck on your every day adventures my friends :)

E is for ERIC

Sometimes, when  I get tired of trying to make up my own realistic but dreamy heroes, I go back to disney.

The best writers give their heroes some kind of fault...looks like even Disney knows that.

Besides, let's be real.  If he was sitting across from me at dinner, I'd be making that same face right back at him....come on.  Look at that smile.

I used to wonder why Ariel was such a dolt.  Who in their right mind would leave their family, friends, and the sea for the land?  But I get it now, Ariel.  Boy, do I get it.

P.S. Real life depiction done by Jirka Vaatainen.  Thank you for making my dream crush seem so real, yet so far away... #justalittleheartbroken

Cover Me Mine!

Everyone knows that despite the saying to not judge a book by it's cover, we all do precisely that.  I've even read plenty of reviews on Amazon about how "so and so's writing was great, but their cover really put me off."

Needless to say, I've been a bit stressed about making a cover.  I mean, as a very much so broke and practically homeless person, I can't afford to pay someone to make covers for me...and I'm not super tech-savvy, so let me give a shout out to canva.com

This was only possible because of you:

And here is an excerpt from the book:

Holly frantically glanced around, but there was no one in the courtyard.  It was a chilly afternoon.  Everyone was probably inside trying to stay warm.  She was about to run to the door of the inn, intending to shout for help, when it swung open.

She gaped.  How had he gotten down the stairs so fast?  How had he known which door to exit?  In that brief moment, her vision sharpened and she could see his features perfectly.  Black, windswept hair tumbled across his forehead and around his face.  She’d been right before about a black cloth hiding the lower half of his face, leaving only his eyes and high forehead open to view.  Her eyes were riveted by his emerald gaze, which was sharp as a knife and filled her with terror.

Mockingjay meets Life

I was eleven when I first started writing.  Back then, I wrote only poetry.

There are two reasons why I write poetry.  The first is because it's the only way I know to express the anguish and travail that sometimes besets my soul.  The second is because poetry is the only way I know how to express the blessed relief and peace when my soul is freed.

Poetry is my soul's communication.

Tonight, as we were leaving from the theater, my sister got a text.  One of the students she had taught, served, and loved had committed suicide.

It's now 2:00 in the morning.

Lonely agony subdues
Flood of bitter waves of woe
Bleak thoughts echo within
What but pain has laid behind
What but Tartarus can lie ahead
Head so low and blinders on
Unseeing of thousands around
Thousands before
Thousands after
Pass beyond.
Eyes see, the blind are healed
And gates turned gold lie unconcealed
Wake in aching sweet embrace
Safely wrapped by arms of Grace
Love is Hope made into action
Almighty Power comes from compassion
Heaven’s love already found
Every heart it doth surround

Feeling Bored and Looking for Inspiration?

Occasionally, I have a hard time finding and creating my own daily adventures.  When that happens, I go to Utah....the people there are prepared for ANY and ALL catastrophic events.

The Freezin' Season

It's officially upon us.

Temperatures have dropped, snow has fallen, and there's a certain quality to the air, as if it too can't decide whether to leave or stay.

I find some of my best inspiration outdoors.  Nature is like my safe place.  Whether overwhelmed or underwhelmed, there's just the right amount of peace and tranquility to make me feel better.

Today I was thinking about how similar seasons are to life.  Or maybe it's just that life has seasons.  Spring is this glorious time of renewal.  In a sense, everything is reborn, including people who for the first time in months are actually happy to be outside.  Everything is energize with hope and new life.  Summer is easy and fun.  We can go outside whenever we want.  No longer do we have to fear freezing our behinds off in water.  Hiking, exploring, swimming, sunbathing...the beach...traveling and trips...it's just fun.  Maybe it's that the sun is naturally cheery and it brightens everything around and in us.  Of course, then Fall rolls around.  Fall perfectly combines a renewed work ethic with the imagination of children.  Spooky and scary, grateful and family oriented, crisp and brisk...it's one of my favorite times of year.

Then winter.  Oh, the first month of winter is wonderful!  Snow is fresh and coats the world in sparkles.  There's that Christmas/Hanukka/Kwanzaa/Yule/whatever winter holiday you want to insert spirit going around that makes every smiley and cheerful.  Unfortunately, winter then proceeds to drag on and on and on.  Much like the winter of our lives does.  When we come on hard times and trials, at first we face them with optimism.  We're excited to overcome a challenge.  Then it doesn't go away.  We get annoyed, we wonder how long until the snow melts and are we every going to see the sun.

The trick here is the same trick to overcoming winter hating, find the beauty.

There is beauty waiting to be found in every wintry trial.

Welcome World!

Welcome to THE blog!

The first reason for this blog is that I wanted a way to prove to myself and to all my readers that adventures happen DAILY even to us AVERAGE individuals.  I've spent years living through books and my own writing, wondering why my characters got to have all the fun. Then I started traveling and I thought, oh, adventure IS out there.  Unfortunately, travel can be expensive.  Luckily, that's about when my even bigger epiphany happened.  You don't have to read, write, or travel to have adventure.  You can have adventures every day.  So, this blog is a way for me to prove to myself and all you other writers, dreamers, and wishers that adventure isn't just out there, it's also right here, right now.

The second reason for this blog is that I'm a writer.  Truthfully, I'm not much of a blog writer.  I'm more of a novel and poetry writer.  BUT the one thing I love about authors today is so many of them have their own websites.  So, this is my feeble, super un-tech-savvy attempt.  I'll post daily adventures.  I'll post random tidbits about things I'm working on.  I'll probably post random thoughts I have.  In general, this blog is the scribblings of a mad woman, but hey, we all go a little mad sometimes.

So, for reals, welcome to the world of my madness :)
